You've set up your Aquager Hydroponic Home Farm. The water's in, the seeds are planted, and something small and green is starting to appear. Now what? Getting the most from your farm isn't complicated — but a few good habits early on make a significant difference to what you'll be harvesting a month from now.
This guide covers everything from what to plant first to how to manage successive harvests — plus where to find ongoing inspiration, deals, and community from the Aquager team.

Start With the Fastest Growers
If this is your first time growing with Aquager, start with something that rewards you quickly. Microgreens are the best choice: they germinate in 3–5 days and are ready to harvest in 7–14 days. That fast feedback loop — plant, watch, harvest — builds confidence and helps you understand how your specific farm and light environment perform.
From microgreens, move to herbs. Basil, mint, and parsley are forgiving, genuinely useful in the kitchen, and grow at a pace that keeps the farm feeling active and productive. Once you have a feel for the rhythm, experiment with slower-growing options like leafy greens, cherry tomatoes, or strawberries.
🌿 Recommended First-Grow Order
- Microgreens (arugula, radish, or broccoli) — harvest in 7–14 days
- Fresh herbs (basil or mint) — harvest in 2–4 weeks
- Leafy greens (spinach or lettuce) — ongoing harvest from week 3 onward
The 5-Minute Daily Routine
Aquager is designed around a five-minute daily check-in. Here's what that actually looks like:
- Water level — glance at the reservoir and top up if it's running low. Most farms need topping up every 2–3 days depending on growth stage and ambient temperature.
- Plant check — look for yellowing leaves (usually a sign the reservoir needs topping up or nutrient levels are off), overcrowding, or anything that's ready to harvest.
- Harvest — when herbs or greens are at a good size, harvest from the outer leaves inward. This encourages continued growth rather than triggering the plant to bolt.
That's it. Five minutes covers all three. The system handles the rest.
Light: The Most Common Variable
Your farm's location relative to natural light is the biggest factor in how quickly your plants grow and how densely they develop. South-facing windows generally provide the most consistent light for indoor growing. East or west-facing windows work well too.
If your space doesn't get reliable natural light — or if you're growing in winter when daylight hours are short — an LED grow light positioned 6–12 inches above your farm compensates effectively. Many Aquager customers use a basic grow light on a timer set for 14–16 hours per day with excellent results.
Successive Planting for Year-Round Harvest
The most productive Aquager setups use successive planting — starting a new tray or section every 1–2 weeks rather than planting everything at once. This staggers your harvest so you always have something ready, rather than getting a large harvest all at once followed by a gap.
With two farm units in the Chef's Organic Set, successive planting is natural: one unit at a later growth stage than the other, giving you something to harvest at almost every check-in.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I grow in the Aquager farm first?
Start with microgreens — they're the fastest to germinate and harvest, which gives you early feedback on how your farm is performing. Radish, arugula, and broccoli microgreens are all reliable first-grows. Follow with basil or mint once you're comfortable with the system.
How often does the water reservoir need topping up?
Every 2–3 days on average, though this varies depending on what you're growing, the ambient temperature of your space, and the stage of plant growth. Plants in active growth phases consume water more quickly than seedlings.
My plants are stretching and leaning toward the light — what should I do?
This is a sign your plants are searching for more light. Move the farm closer to a window, rotate it 180 degrees so the plants reach toward the other side, or add an LED grow light if natural light in your space is limited.
When is the right time to harvest?
For microgreens, harvest when the first true leaves appear — usually at 7–14 days. For herbs, harvest when stems have at least 3–4 sets of leaves, taking from the outer growth first. For leafy greens, harvest outer leaves once the plant is well-established, leaving the centre to continue growing.
I don't have an Aquager farm yet — where do I start?
