Closing Gifts for Realtors: Practical Furniture New Homeowners Keep

About 4.06 million existing homes sold in the U.S. in 2025, according to RISMedia's year-end report. Every one of those sales ends with a closing day, and for many agents, a closing gift. The usual picks are a gift basket, a bottle of wine, or a gift card. They are nice for a weekend, and then they are gone.

The best closing gifts stay in the home and keep your name in the room. That is why more agents are asking about practical furniture: something a new homeowner will use every day, not something they finish by Sunday.

This guide answers the questions agents ask most about closing gifts. What works, what to spend, how volume pricing works, whether it can arrive before the holidays, and which rules to check first.

What Makes a Good Closing Gift for a New Homeowner?

A good closing gift does three things. It gets used, it lasts, and it connects to the new home. Anything that disappears in a week, like flowers or snacks, makes a nice moment but does not keep you top of mind.

Alabama Realtors makes the same point in its guide to client gifts. Practical gifts get used repeatedly, which keeps the agent top of mind long after the closing. A gift that sits in the kitchen every morning does that job better than one that sits in a closet.

Think about what a new owner needs in the first week. They are unpacking, they have a bare counter, and they are cooking in an unfamiliar kitchen. A gift that fits into that routine feels thoughtful, not generic.

It also helps if the gift looks good. A closing gift is often the first thing a client shows to visitors. If it looks like real furniture, it earns a place in the room and gets noticed.

How Much Should Realtors Spend on Closing Gifts?

There is no fixed number, but there is a useful rule of thumb. The same Alabama Realtors guide cites a suggestion of 1% to 5% of the gross commission on a deal. On a $9,000.00 commission, that is $90.00 to $450.00.

That range covers a lot of gift types. A basket sits at the low end. A single piece of useful furniture sits closer to the middle. Our Chef's Organic Set is $199.99 today in most finishes (listed at $279.99), which fits inside that range for many deals.

Volume changes the math. If you give several gifts a year, a lower per-gift price helps you stay consistent. We cover the real tiers below.

Many agents also spread gifts across the year, with a seasonal touch in December and a small gesture on the closing anniversary. A bigger closing gift paired with a small reminder later keeps the relationship going without extra cost.

Can Practical Furniture Work as a Closing Gift?

Yes, and it is one of the few gift categories that fits a home. The Aquager Chef's Organic Set is a wooden piece that looks like a small console or cabinet. It stands 22 by 15 by 30 inches and takes up about 2 square feet. It also holds your client's supplies in a matching Storage Unit. For a gift that suits the whole family, read about a practical gift for in-laws.

What makes it different from other furniture is that it grows food. It comes with 24 plants (a mix of chards and basils) and built-in LED lights on a timer, 16 hours on and 8 hours off. There is no soil and no app. Your client adds water, plugs it in, and grows fresh basil and chard on the counter.

That is a very good story for a new kitchen. It gives the owner something alive on day one, and it makes the first dinner in the new home a little more special. For a related idea, see our post on the best housewarming gift for a home cook.

What is in the box

The set includes the wooden hydroponic farm, 24 plants, LED lights, nutrients, a pH kit, an air pump, and the matching Storage Unit. Nothing else is needed. It comes in four wood finishes, so you can pick a look that suits most kitchens.

How hard is setup for your client

The set arrives flat-packed. Assembly takes about 60 to 90 minutes, tools are included, and there is a step-by-step guide. It is a small weekend project, and many new owners enjoy building something for their new kitchen. First sprouts appear in 6 to 9 days, and the first harvest comes in 3 to 8 weeks. We explain how flat-pack assembly, shipping and returns work in a separate guide.

If you want to see the set in a bigger home context, our guide to indoor garden furniture vs appliance gardens explains why a wooden piece tends to stay on display.

Which Clients Is This Closing Gift Best For?

Not every client needs the same gift, but this one fits more people than you might expect. Here is how agents can match it to the person at the table. For team and client gifts, see corporate holiday gifts.

  • First-time buyers: They often have a small kitchen and a tight budget for decor. At about 2 square feet, the set adds furniture and food without taking over the room.
  • Families: Kids can watch seeds sprout in 6 to 9 days, which turns the first weeks in a new house into a small family project.
  • Sellers who are downsizing: Closing gifts for sellers are easy to overlook. A compact piece that needs only water about every 7 to 10 days suits someone moving to a smaller place.
  • Clients who love to cook: Fresh basil and chard a few steps from the stove is a gift they will talk about at dinner.

The follow-up is built in. The first harvest comes 3 to 8 weeks after planting, so a short text that says "How is the basil coming along?" gives you a natural reason to reach out in January or February. That one message keeps you in the conversation when the next move, or a referral, comes up.

What Does Volume Pricing for Realtor Closing Gifts Look Like?

If you buy for several clients, the price per set drops. These are the current tiers from our bulk pricing page, based on the regular price of $199.99:

  • 3 to 4 sets: $170.00 per set, which is $29.99 off each.
  • 5 to 14 sets: $150.00 per set, which is $49.99 off each.
  • 15 or more sets: $120.00 per set, which is $79.99 off each.

The minimum order is 3 sets, and you can mix finishes in one order. Here is how that adds up. Five sets at $150.00 cost $750.00, compared with $999.95 at the regular price. Fifteen sets at $120.00 cost $1,800.00, which is the same total as 12 sets at $150.00.

That last point is worth knowing. If you are near a tier, a few extra sets can cost nothing extra, and you end up with gifts for the next quarter.

How to place a volume order

Send a quote request through the form on the bulk pricing page. It asks for your name, phone, email, number of sets, finish, delivery address, and preferred date. We reply within 12 hours with an invoice, and you can pay by card, ACH, or purchase order. A W-9 is available on request.

Every box also includes a card with your name and message. That is the part that turns a nice gift into your gift. Your client opens it, and your name is the first thing they see.

Can It Arrive Before the Holidays?

Yes, if you order by December 10. For volume orders, we offer free hand delivery to Chicago offices, with a last delivery day of December 18. Outside Chicago, ask us about nearby suburbs and other locations. Orders placed after December 10 are delivered from January 6, and you get a printed gift card to hand out before the holidays.

That gift card is a useful backup. It lets you give something on closing day, and the set arrives right after the New Year, when a new homeowner is settling in.

For a single set, shipping is free in the United States. Orders process within 3 business days, then take 4 to 7 business days to arrive. These are estimates, not guarantees. An order placed on Thursday, December 10 should arrive by December 24 at the latest.

From November 6 through December 4, code BLACKFRIDAY takes 10% off a single-set order, one use per customer. That brings the Set to $179.99 in Blonde Maple and the two-tone versions, which is $100.00 below the original $279.99. Volume orders are invoiced through the quote form, so ask us how a code applies.

Are There Rules or Tax Limits on Closing Gifts?

There can be, so check before you buy. This section is general information, not tax or legal advice.

First, taxes. Under IRS Publication 463, a business gift is generally deductible only up to $25.00 per recipient per year. A $199.99 gift is above that limit, so talk to your tax professional about how to treat it.

Second, disclosure. Alabama Realtors notes that a gift tied to a closing should be given before or at closing and disclosed to all parties. Rules differ by state and lender, so ask your broker or local association what applies to you.

Third, timing. Many agents give the gift at closing, and others deliver it a few days after. The card with your name in the box works for either approach.

Realtor Closing Gifts FAQ

Is a hydroponic farm too unusual for a closing gift?

It is unusual in a good way. It looks like furniture, it needs no gardening skill, and it gives your client something to show visitors. If you want a smaller option, the Microgreens Starter Kit is $29.99 and grows greens on a counter in about a week.

What if my client already has a full kitchen?

That is where this gift fits best. It is not another gadget in a drawer. It is a piece of wooden furniture that stands on its own and produces fresh food through winter.

Can my client return it?

For single orders, there are 30 days from delivery to request a return of unused items in their original packaging. Defective or damaged items are replaced or fully refunded. Ask us about the terms for volume orders when you request your quote.

Is there a smaller gift for past clients?

Yes. The Microgreens Starter Kit works well for a holiday note to past clients at $29.99, with two trays, seeds, and grow mats.

Give a Closing Gift Your Client Keeps in the Kitchen

A good closing gift is useful, lasting, and tied to the new home. The Chef's Organic Set checks all three, and it carries your name on the card in the box. With tiers from $170.00 down to $120.00 per set, it also scales as your business grows.

If you want to order before the December 10 deadline, send a quote request today and we will reply within 12 hours.
